Facial emotion recognition in bipolar disorder: a critical review
Written by Incomplete
17 April 2013

Bipolar disorder has consistently been coupled to cognitive impairments that hinder the cognitive and social functioning of BD patients. However, for years, these cognitive deficits were believed to disappear during euthymic states of the disorder. Growing bodies of evidence suggest that even when stable, BD patients suffer from trait-associated cognitive impairment.

Subthreshold Bipolar Disorder – Not Ready for Prime Time

About 1% of our population suffers from "no doubt about it" bipolar affective disorder (bipolar I disorder).  Persons with this disorder experience serious episodes of both depression and mania that can last for weeks to years. Manic symptoms are dramatic and disruptive, and typically include elevated or irritable mood, inappropriate self-esteem (grandiosity), markedly decreased need forsleep, excessive energy, hypertalkativeness (often with rapid and uninterruptable speech), and extremely bad judgment, often involving sexual behaviors or financial decisions.  Psychotic symptoms, including auditory and visual hallucinations, and delusional thinking (such as believing that one is God), are common and disruptive.  Untreated, this illness severely impairs function and can lead to disability and death.  Many, but not all, patients with bipolar I disorder respond well to currently available treatments. Patients are usually treated with medications along with education and rehabilitative therapies.

Saying "NO" to NegativeThinking
Written by bpiiallen
26 February 2011

As I work with my therapist through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) one issue that comes up time and time again is my negative thinking.  We challenge the thoughts and work towards identifying the rational response that will lead me to the new thought.  It is not an easy process and has taken a lot of practice, but it has been beneficial to my well-being.  I have written this article to hopefully guide others through the path of Negative Thoughts.

The Manic Scott
Written by Scone
03 May 2009
My name is Scott Bennett and I am 18 years old. I was recently diagnosed bipolar I after having a 30 day case of full blown mania. Here in this article I wrote in narrative form my experience with mania and a detailed account of the actions I did and what happened to me during the episode. I am currently stable. It has been 2 months since the episode and I have almost fully recovered. Writing my story and sharing it helps me. Now, here is my story.

My Pain Has Many Faces

This was written a while ago I hope that it gives some insight to those of you with loved ones that have to live with Bipolar and those of you with it I know will empathize I hope that this is my first step and letting you know my hand is stretching out to help you. I wrote this raw in a way that you feel like you have climbed into my head and met my illness if but for a minute. Which is why I believe it would be ideal for the loved ones of someone who is suffering with Bipolar. Looking for answers or a window. Here is a small one.
