There are 4 major classes of drugs to treat the acid element of acid reflux. In ascending order of effectiveness, they are antacids, alginates, H2 blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors.   They are detailed below.

Barrett's is formed in response to attacks by acid reflux but once formed is asymptomatic so we may not realise we are still prone to “silent reflux” where the burning effect of the acid is not noticed.
