MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

Welcome friends! I’m sure many of you know me from the depression group. Lately I’ve been realizing that when I fill in forms, no matter the semantics, I fall into the senior citizens group. I’ve been retired on SSD for about 10 years, but to actually be old enough to live in the senior apartment I moved into in '98 due to disability felt like a kick in the gut. I was thinking and there is no question that being a senior is not what it used to be. Many now work way beyond 65. I had a correspondence w/ a well know author a few years back. I just read that a month after her 100th birthday she was hired as a professor at Hunter College in NY. She may be the extreme, but she was doing well last time I checked. I was also thinking about the older people without the money for their meds. We can only hope that Obama does something to allow those of us who are aging to be able to fill our prescriptions and eat. As we age, I am sure many such issues and others will come to light. And when they do, we have a place to share them and get others’ perspectives.

I don’t think there is any way to classify Baby Boomers. How in the world do you put 85,000,000 people into any kind of grouping other than being born from late 1946 to 1964? And just for fun, it appears that this year will break all records on number of babies born in one year in the USA or of American parents. They are calling it something like a one-year baby boom. I think we should let them join if they can read and write. Talk about a new perspective!

I am hoping we get posts of all kinds and that we will see that many things we thought are ‘wrong’ with us are natural aging. We'll find that things we've been afraid to talk about are also natural. I’ve been fighting moving from being middle age to being a senior. Alas I’ve no time machine and don't want to live to be 126, so it must be time to move on and accept that I'm a senior citizen. My hope is, as with the other groups, we find people who are having the same concerns, joys, and anything in between.

We now have another group of people helping people.
