I’m a 41 year old mother of 5 children, 4 boys whose ages’ are; 24, 20, 15 & 13 and one daughter age 16. I was diagnosed with an “attention deficit” when I was 8 years old, which THEN was considered a learning disability. All four of my sons have also been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
I’ve also suffered from depression my entire life, but never sought treatment until about 13 years ago; my depression became very bad and I attempted suicide during my abusive marriage. THAT was my breaking point. The past 13 years have been a crazy journey of self exploration. Everyday I discover more about how my mental illness affects me and drives many of my behaviors.
Up until recently, I managed my life fairly well, dealing with 5 kids, going through a divorce, holding down a full time job all while keeping my depression in check. However the past 4 years have become pretty difficult. I have some physical problems with my neck, back and spine that cause a lot of pain, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and I’m currently dealing with an undiagnosed autoimmune issue for which I’m smack in the middle of the testing/waiting phase.
Due to state budget cuts, I lost my job of 5 years, WHICH I LOVED, about 4 years ago and haven’t been able to find any job that I can physically do since. It’s much easier to work with a disability in a job that you’ve been at for a while then it is to be disabled and find a job. Needless to say, I finally was encouraged to apply for disability last January and am still waiting for my hearing. : (
I’m a lover of beauty, and I can find beauty in just about EVERYTHING. I love the arts, I love nature, I love and enjoy people (when I’m not isolating), and I’m a diplomat at heart. I’m very big on balance and fairness, I’m a true Libra.
I look forward to making more friends here on MD junction, because sharing with others who deal with some of the same issues has been A HUGE part of my mental health recovery. I hope I can help other in turn…..
So that’s me, in a nut shell. Let’s be friends and start healing!
